Each morning, Jews around the world wake up and say the Modeh Ani prayer, “I am grateful to You, living enduring monarch, for restoring my soul to me in compassion.” In this first prayer of the day, we root ourselves in the practice of hakarat hatov, gratitude. We give thanks that we have been entrusted with a precious gift, and through this show of gratitude, internalize our commitment to nurture and safeguard it wherever the day may take us.
